Terms of Use
These are the rules for using H1 Lingo. They are short on purpose. By using the app you agree to them.
1. Who we are
H1 Lingo is a free study app for Leaving Certificate Spanish and German. It is run by Manuela Heinz and Padraig Heinz-Ward ("we", "us"), private individuals, not a company. You can contact us at hello@h1lingo.com.
2. Who can use it: 18 and over
The beta is for people aged 18 or over. By using H1 Lingo you confirm that you are 18 or over. If you are under 18, please do not use the app.
We rely on what you tell us about your age. If you give a false age to get in, you are using the app in breach of these terms and without our permission. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss or harm that results from that. If we find out that someone under 18 is using the app, we may stop their access and delete any data they sent us.
3. This is a free beta
- It is free. There is nothing to buy and no payment is taken.
- It is a test version. It may contain mistakes, change, or stop working at any time, and we do not promise it will always be available.
- We may change or remove features, or stop the beta, without notice.
4. A study aid, not an official source
- H1 Lingo helps you study. It does not replace your teacher, your textbook or the official exam material.
- Notes, questions, model answers and marks are guides. They can be wrong. Check anything important with your teacher.
- Some content in the app was written or drafted with the help of AI, and the AI features create new content as you use them. AI-generated content can contain mistakes in grammar, spelling, facts or exam advice, even when it sounds confident.
- We give the app and its content "as is", without any promise that it is accurate, complete or up to date, to the extent the law allows.
- Any mark, grade or CAO points estimate is only a guide and is not an official result.
- H1 Lingo is an independent project. It is not run, approved or endorsed by the State Examinations Commission (SEC), the Department of Education, or Anthropic.
5. No account
You do not need to register. Your progress is saved on your own device, in your browser. If you clear your browser data or switch device, your progress is lost, and we cannot restore it. See the Privacy Policy.
6. AI features (Puffin and Photo check)
- Puffin (the tutor) and Photo check are powered by Claude, an AI system made by Anthropic. You are talking to an AI, not a person.
- They work through your own Claude account. Claude accounts are for people aged 18 or over, and your use of Claude is also covered by Anthropic's own terms and policies.
- AI can make mistakes, miss mistakes or invent things. Never rely on it for anything important.
- Do not put personal details such as your full name, school, address, phone number or anyone else's personal information into messages or photos.
7. Using the app properly
Please do not:
- break the law, or use the app to harm, harass or deceive anyone;
- upload photos or text containing other people's personal information, or anything you do not have the right to share;
- use the AI features to produce work you then present as your own where that is not allowed, for example in an assessment;
- try to break, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the app, or get around its limits;
- copy, resell or republish the app or its content.
If you break these rules we may stop you using the app.
8. Your work
Your answers, essays and photos remain yours. We do not receive them. When you use Photo check or Puffin, your text or photo is sent to Claude to produce a response, as explained in the Privacy Policy. You confirm that anything you send is your own work, or that you have the right to use it.
9. Our content and other people's content
- The app, its design, code and original notes, questions and examples belong to Manuela Heinz and Padraig Heinz-Ward. All rights reserved. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial study.
- Past exam papers, marking schemes and listening recordings belong to the State Examinations Commission. They are not ours.
- Other trademarks and names belong to their owners.
- Open-source parts: the Fraunces, Instrument Sans and Caveat fonts are used under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, and the PDF viewer (pdf.js) is used under the Apache License 2.0.
10. Copyright or content complaints
If you think something in the app infringes your rights or is wrong, email hello@h1lingo.com with the details. We will look at it promptly and remove or fix it where appropriate.
11. Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.
Subject to that, because this is a free beta, and to the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from using it, including any effect on your exam results, study decisions or grades. You are responsible for how you use what the app tells you.
12. Privacy and storage
Please read our Privacy Policy and our Cookies and local storage notice.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version and date are at the top. If we make an important change, the app will ask you to accept the new version.
14. Stopping
You can stop using H1 Lingo at any time and delete your data from the app (Me, then Privacy and data). We may suspend or end the beta, or your access, at any time.
15. Irish law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, and the courts of Ireland can decide disputes. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of that country.
